Practice Rooms

Berklee features many rooms for solo practice that are exclusively for student use. Most are available on a first-come, first-served basis with a Berklee ID (see details below).

Piano performance majors may reserve specific practice rooms on a semester basis. To sign up for a reserved time, report to the Piano Department during check-in week. 

You are encouraged to limit your practice time to two hours. However, if there is no one waiting for your room, you can continue to practice. 

Practice rooms are located in following buildings.

150 Massachusetts Avenue Complex

This includes rooms in 130, 136, and 150 Massachusetts Avenue.
Hours: 9:00 a.m.–11:45 p.m. 
Availability: First-come, first-served

Check in at the front desk and to receive a key to an available room. Many contain pianos, drum sets, or are empty. Two rooms have vibraphones and one has an organ. 

160 Massachusetts Avenue

Hours: 24 hours a day, seven days a week
Availability: First-come, first-served

These practice rooms contain drum sets or pianos or are empty. They are located on the fourth floor and are open only to campus residents. You need your Berklee ID to access the floor.

171 Massachusetts Avenue

Hours: Weekdays: 9:00 a.m.–11:45 p.m./Weekends: 12:00 p.m.–11:45 p.m.
Availability: By reservation

Practice rooms in this building are available only to piano and percussion principals.

If you are a performance major with a piano principal, you may reserve a recurring practice time for the semester during check-in week. To sign up for a recurring reservation, report to the Piano Department that week. Students who do not have recurring reservations must go to the front desk to reserve these rooms.

Only approved Hammond players and students taking Hammond organ labs may use the organ rooms. 

1108 Boylston Street

Hours: 7:00 a.m.–12:00 a.m.
Availability: First-come, first-served

These rooms contain a piano and/or drum sets, and an organ room. To use the organ room, check in at the Piano Department. 

25 Fordham Road

Hours: Weekdays: 9:00 a.m.–11:30 p.m. / Weekends: 12:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m.
Availability: First-come, first-served. Open to both College and Conservatory students. 

Located in Allston, accessible via the Green Line (Packard's corner), the Fordham Road facility has practice rooms with the following contents:

  • Drum set and cymbals (16 rooms)
  • Piano (11)
  • Electric piano and guitar amp (7)
  • Vibraphone (3)
  • Set of three tympani (1)
  • Five-octave marimba, congas, timbales, and other percussion (1)
  • Upright bass (1)
  • Bass amp (1)
  • Empty (7)

270 Commonwealth Avenue

Hours: 24 hours a day, seven days a week
Availability: First-come, first-served

Practice rooms are open only to campus residents. They contain pianos or are empty.

132 Ipswich Street

Hours: 6:00 a.m.11:00 p.m.
Availability: First-come, first-served

There are several practice rooms in this building. The percussion rooms are available only to percussion majors. 

8 Fenway

Hours: 6:00 a.m.2:00 a.m.
Availability: First-come, first-served

98 Hemenway Street

Hours: 24 hours a day, seven days a week
Availability: First-come, first-served

This facility contains practice rooms that are empty or have a piano in them. Practice rooms are open only to campus residents.


  1. Practice rooms are for the exclusive use of enrolled students with a valid Berklee ID card. *It will be assumed that any person who cannot produce a valid Berklee ID card is a not a Berklee student and does not have a right to use these facilities.
  2. Smoking is prohibited in all Berklee buildings.
  3. Food and drink are prohibited.
  4. Practice room windows must remain uncovered for security purposes.
  5. Personal items should not be left in the practice rooms. Berklee is not responsible for instruments or other personal items left unattended.
  6. Intentional damage to rooms or instruments may be cause for disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal from the institution.
