Berklee BeanTown Jazz FestivalWill Calhoun Trio
Will Calhoun is a Grammy winner who contributes to many genres, including jazz, rock, hip-hop, ambient, and more while concurrently producing, touring, creating new projects, working on films, and continuously pushing the envelope. Famous for his work with the groundbreaking hard rock group Living Colour, which won two Grammys, Calhoun has recorded and/or toured and performed with many artists, including Mick Jagger, Mos Def, Oumou Sangare, Marcus Miller, and Wayne Shorter (on the Grammy-winning CD High Life).
Before he became famous as a member of Living Colour, Calhoun was an aspiring jazz drummer raised on a steady diet of his father's bebop records. Calhoun goes back to his roots on his latest album, Life In This World, but to get there he takes a circuitous route through a wealth of musical experience around the globe.
Calhoun's stellar jazz recording features great artists such as Wallace Roney, Donald Harrison, Charnett Moffett, Marc Cary, Doug Wimbish, John Benitezand, and legendary bassist Ron Carter. "Life In This World is a spiritual title," Calhoun says, "which, to me, just means the sonic world of my experiences. It's Will Calhoun in the sense of what influences me and what inspires me, but aimed more towards a jazz audience." This new CD is Calhoun's most jazz-oriented recording since his Grammy-nominated 2000 release, Live at the Blue Note, and his diverse interests remain evident.
