Don’t miss this tribute concert to trumpeter and composer Claudio Roditi, featuring Berklee College of Music faculty and special guests. The concert is produced and coordinated by Fernando Brandão and Oscar Stagnaro, and is sponsored by LMS and Berklee Latino.

Integrating post-bop elements and Brazilian rhythmic concepts into his palette with ease, Roditi plays with power and lyricism. This versatility keeps him in demand as a performer, recording artist, and teacher.

Born in 1946 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Roditi began his musical studies when he was just 6 years old. By the time he was 12, he already had become a serious jazz listener. In 1966, he was named a finalist at the International Jazz Competition in Vienna, Austria. It was in Vienna that Roditi met Art Farmer—one of his idols—and the friendship inspired him to pursue a career in jazz.

A determined Roditi relocated to Boston, Massachusetts, in 1970 to study at Berklee College of Music. Arriving in New York City in 1976, he performed or recorded with Charlie Rouse, Herbie Mann, Paquito D’Rivera, Joe Henderson, and Tito Puente, among others. In 1989, Roditi began a five-year stint as a member of Dizzy Gillespie’s United Nation Orchestra. Currently, he leads his own bands and is a featured performer with several groups, including Trio da Paz and Friends and the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band.

With 24 critically acclaimed albums, Roditi continues to develop his playing and compositions through recording projects. Bons Amigos, his release on the Resonance label, features several originals: “Bossa de Mank,” “Piccolo Samba,” and the driving, straight-ahead “Levitation,” framed by seven compositions by Brazilian masters such as Antônio Carlos Jobim and Johnny Alf.
