With so much information to sift through and learn, it can be challenging to follow the particular nuances of the business side of art. The creative process doesn’t end when a piece of music or sound recording is complete. Join Chad Irvin ‘08 and Matthew Stearns ‘08 for a discussion on the importance of owning our creations and making sure we are receiving the royalties we're owed.
Participants will:
- Review the scope of copyright and the benefits of federal copyright registration;
- Learn about recent developments in copyright legislation;
- Discuss the process for registering both compositions and sound recordings; and
- Explore common challenges associated with receiving royalties.
