Sloane Skylar is a 19-year-old singer-songwriter from Chicago, Illinois. Growing up around music, she became interested in it at an early age, singing along to her favorite movies and television shows. At age nine, Skylar begged for a guitar and began taking lessons. A year later, she stopped lessons and began teaching herself by ear. At 11, she sang "Geek in Pink" by Jason Mraz to her dad, who encouraged her to start a band. After playing with her band for about a year, Skylar decided to pursue a solo career. She started gaining popularity when she made her channel, Erthghst, on YouTube in 2007. She recorded videos of herself playing guitar, singing popular cover songs, and being goofy on her webcam in her bedroom, and she was surprised at the number of views she got. Eventually Skylar saved up enough money to buy herself a nice camera and recording equipment so that she could release original songs and covers online. One caught producer Shawn Campbell's attention, and Campbell, who's behind teen sensation Cody Simpson's discovery and success, contacted her. He showed Skylar samples of many tracks he created, three of which she fell in love with. Since her first professional single, "All the Above," was released on iTunes in 2011, she has released many songs and worked with producers such as Mark Yoshizumi, Vince Lawrence, Nelly ProToolz, and Dark Blue. Skylar now attends Berklee College of Music and is studying music business and management. Her debut EP, Close the Door EP, was produced by Dan Rassp and released worldwide on iTunes, Apple Music, and Spotify on February 19, 2016.
