Join vocalist and composer Lauren Kinhan B.M. ’86 for a spirited 90-minute workshop focusing on the power of the voice and the presentation of the song.

Kinhan, a member of the veteran vocal group New York Voices, has produced three recordings of her original music, as well as a recent tribute to the late jazz singer Nancy Wilson, recorded at Berklee’s Shames Family Scoring Stage. A faculty member at New York University, she tours with New York Voices and her solo band, and curates a popular monthly vocal night in Manhattan.

Kinhan will discuss the 360-degree view of the artist/musician holding a space, delivering a lyric, and phrasing musically and authentically—with vocal health at the forefront of it all. Whether singing pop, jazz, R&B, or world music, building a voice and an ability to adapt makes for a working in-demand musician.

She will be joined by Berklee associate professor Mark Shilansky on piano, where she will demonstrate these ideas, pluck volunteers from the audience, and take questions. Prepare a song and come willing to play.
