Singers Showcase: Retro-Future—Icons of the ’80s
Go “back to the future” with a mash-up of 1980s-style synth pop and the feel-good synth wave of EDM for a night of songs you forgot you knew by heart. The showcase features an eclectic mix of Berklee’s top student vocalists and vocal groups, with an electrifying array of instrumentalists and dancers spanning Berklee College of Music and Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
With epic melodies and dramatic synths, indulge yourself in an ’80s flashback with an edge, featuring songs from the decade that brought us Michael Jackson, Madonna, Aretha Franklin, George Michael, Cyndi Lauper, and many others. Whether you choose neon and Lycra or a skinny tie and black turtleneck, go retro-future with the new-wave hitmakers of the MTV VJ era.
Special guests include Omar Hakim, chair of the Berklee College of Music Percussion Department. Hakim is one of the world’s most sought-after drummers, both on the performance stage and in the recording studio. He has worked with the biggest names in music, including Michael Jackson, Madonna, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, and Mick Jagger.
