The #BerkleeAnywhere Concert Series features Berklee College of Music and Boston Conservatory at Berklee students performing virtually, from wherever they are in the world. We may be separated by distance, but music empowers us to unite. Wherever you are, we invite you to connect with us every Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. EST on Berklee’s IGTV and Facebook pages.

About the Artist

Ricky Matute is a musician from Barranquilla, Colombia, who has extensive experience in different genres and has played in venues and events around Latin America and the United States, such as the Latin Grammys’ Person of the Year Gala 2019 (Las Vegas, Nevada), Lincoln Center (New York, New York), the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (Washington, D.C.) and the Barranquijazz Festival (Barranquilla, Colombia). In addition, he was invited as an artist to the Córdoba Drum Camp (Córdoba, Argentina) to give a master class about Colombian percussion.

In 2017, Matute was awarded a full-tuition scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music, and the same year, he received a $100,000 Gifted Tuition Scholarship from the Latin Grammy Foundation. On a regular day, he can be found working as a session or live percussionist, writing music, or working with any of the three bands he is part of: Puerta de Oro, a Colombia-based band that mixes traditional music with music from other cultures; Tonada, a folkloric group that plays bullerengue (Colombian traditional music); or the Timba Messengers, a Boston-based collective specializing in Cuban and Latin jazz music.
