Berklee Summer in the City Red Velvet
Please see the full events listing for upcoming events.
Red Velvet is an acoustic duo drawing from proud Southern roots, Northeastern tenacity, and fiery hair all around. Heavily influenced by greats such as Stevie Wonder, Tedeschi Trucks Band, the Civil Wars, and Parliament, Red Velvet brings to life a sound reminiscent of an era when music was synonymous with soul.
Jordan Lipsey and Neal Rosenthal met on their first day at Berklee College of Music in the fall of 2011 and quickly became friends due to the subconscious, natural draw of one redhead to another. By the summer of 2012, they had begun to play as a duo in Lipsey’s native Texas. Over the course of 2013 and 2014, their highlights included the honor of opening for Livingston Taylor at the Dosey Doe in Houston, Texas; playing several Mardi Gras shows in New Orleans, Louisiana; playing functions at Harvard University; participating in Berklee’s Summer in the City concert series; and returning to the Dosey Doe on New Year’s Eve three years in a row.
Lipsey graduated from Berklee in May of 2014 and hopes to combine her love of playing music with her skills in the music business as she moves into post-college life in Nashville, Tennessee. Rosenthal will graduate in May of 2015. He is currently a trumpet principal at Berklee but is equally accomplished at guitar. Be on the lookout for Red Velvet’s upcoming debut EP, Let Them Eat Cake!
