Berklee Latino, the Mediterranean Music Institute (MMI), and Instituto Cervantes, in collaboration with the Hispano-American consulates, will present a free concert celebrating Miguel de Cervantes on the anniversary of his death. The concert will feature Berklee students and faculty, including the Balkan Vocal Ensemble directed by Christiane Karam, and special guest, renowned Spanish artist La Shica, playing Latin and Spanish genres such as tango, salsa, bolero, cumbia, and rancheras.
The concert will also include a tribute to the great flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucía, who passed away earlier this year. A famous novelist, poet, and playwright, de Cervantes shaped the Spanish language of today and is best known for his classic epic novel Don Quixote.
The Miguel de Cervantes Anniversary Concert is led by MMI and Berklee Latino artistic director and Grammy Award-winner Javier Limón; MMI executive director Matthew Nicholl; Berklee Latino academic director and Latin Grammy-winner Oscar Stagnaro; and voice instructor Sofia Rei. All the songs will be arranged by students, and coordinated by student arranging supervisor Esther Rojas.
