Mary Orji is a tenor saxophonist who discovered her love for music at 7 years old, when she got her first iPod. A multi-instrumentalist, she also plays cello and flute. In her hometown of Endicott, New York, Orji is known for playing with older jazz musicians, going to jam sessions, and gigging from as young an age as she could. She has been mentored by the great Mike Carbone, Al Hamme, and Barbara Gannon, and is well versed in a range of styles from classical to jazz and any related sub-genres. Upon arriving at Berklee in 2019, she began to cultivate a following on Instagram, encouraging fans to follow along on her journey. As she continues her education at Berklee, she’s been awarded the college’s Thrive Scholarship and the Bill Pierce MLK Scholarship.
