Maria Wadman grew up in the midst of a multitude of musical cultures and languages, but nothing has influenced her musical sensibility more than the sound of bossa nova and samba on her father’s guitar when she was young. Today, she plays, sings, and composes in a variety of styles, both Latin and not. Her influences still include those of her childhood, also accompanied by Ibrahim Ferrer, Chico Buarque, Rosa Passos, Omara Portuondo, Pat Metheny, Buika, and her professor, Mili Bermejo. Her journey at Berklee has shown her many new roads to explore, and thankfully, along one of those roads she met both Mariano Escalona and Jose Andres Benitez, both from Caracas, Venezuela. They brought Venezuelan traditional and contemporary music, jazz, and timba into her life and playing style. They've been collaborating for a year, and together they form a trio that is always ready to have a good time, and to dance.
