Summer in the CityMaria Wadman
Maria Wadman (Maria Rowinska) fell in love with Brazilian samba, bossa nova, and Cuban son and bolero at a young age—she grew up listening to her father play the melodies and rhythms on his classical guitar. Her formal musical study began at age 6, when she began studying classical piano. In her teenage years she began to perform publicly—singing rather than playing—and realized that her voice was her instrument. She accepted a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in 2013, and will graduate this year with a degree in performance and a minor in performance studies in Latin music. Last year she released her first EP, Brasil Em Mim, a collaborative effort of 16 musicians who she considers dear friends and teachers. Her next project is a collection of original music that fuses all of her musical influences, from Chopin to the classic samba of Cartola.
