Stan Getz Library presentsFilm Screening: Live from Tokyo with Hiromu Boschee Nagahara
Welcome to a world where ideas and genres are pushed to their extremes, with the general sentiment that there is new music waiting to be created.
Live from Tokyo takes the viewer through the back streets of Shinjuku, the intersections in Shibuya, and the alleys in Koenji as it highlights the innovative musicians behind Tokyo's multi-faceted underground music scene.
The documentary looks at Tokyo's music culture as a reflection of Japanese society and in relation to international music culture. Special guest Hiromu Boschee Nagahara, assistant professor of History at MIT, will share from his research into history of media, popular culture, and censorship in modern Japan to give texture and context to the current music scene.
