Keeping the Funk: Music and Life Lessons with Rocco Prestia and Steve Bailey
The Reach Out Initiative at Berklee welcomes famed Tower of Power bassist Rocco Prestia for this major college-wide conversation with Bass Dept. Chair Steve Bailey about the importance of healthy decision-making in living and playing successfully at Berklee and beyond. Refreshments will be served and door prizes will be raffled.
Francis “Rocco” Prestia is regarded as one of history’s most prolific bass players. His industry peers have referred to him as the “master of finger-style funk.” Though known for unique playing in his own right, Prestia's renown also descends from his 35-plus years as the bassist for legendary funk and soul band Tower of Power. Prestia has been featured on the cover of Bass Player magazine and received its Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also been endorsed by some of the most revered amplifier and bass guitar manufacturers, including TC Electronic and ESP Guitars. Internationally, Rocco’s style continues to influence up-and-coming bass players. He is viewed as an innovative musician and major contributor to bass style and technique alongside the likes of his contemporaries, including Stanley Clarke, Victor Wooten, Jaco Pastorius, and Larry Graham.
Steve Bailey has toured and recorded with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Willie Nelson, Jethro Tull, Paquito D’Rivera, Larry Carlton, and the Rippingtons— and all points in between. He has performed concerts and clinics all over the world, and for over 20 years he has partnered with fellow bassist Victor Wooten in numerous projects, including the cutting edge group Bass Extremes. Most recently, he has been touring with bass legends Lee Sklar and Jonas Hellborg in the three bass group JoStLe, as well as with Wooten, supporting his latest releases, “Words and Tones,'' and "Sword and Stone.”
