Born into a musical family, Gregory George Groover Jr., is a 23-year-old tenor saxophonist who has possessed a passion for music since age 10. In the fall of 2011 Groover began his studies at Berklee College of Music on a full-tuition scholarship. During his studies there, he was selected to perform at many of the concert series at the college in addition to festivals such as the Heineken Jazz Festival, the Berklee Beantown Jazz Festival, and the Panama Jazz Festival. One of his proudest achievements was being accepted into Berkleeās Global Jazz Institute.
In 2015, Groover earned his bachelor of music degree from Berklee and he is currently pursuing his master's degree at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute. At this performance, the Gregory Groover Jr. Quintet will present their most recent project featuring Groover's arrangements of negro spirituals and original compositions. The ensemble recently recorded a new EP that will feature these arrangements and originals and plans on a public release in early 2018.
