Gregorio Uribe
Inspired by the rich musical rhythms of his native Colombia, Gregorio Uribe will play a festive blend of cumbia, vallenato, and other Colombian styles.
A singer, songwriter, and accordionist, Uribe is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and leader of the Gregorio Uribe Big Band, a 16-piece orchestra that blends cumbia and other Colombian rhythms with powerful big band arranging. In 2015, Uribe released Cumbia Universal, featuring Rubén Blades, an eight-time Grammy Award winner and Latin-music icon. The album received widespread critical acclaim and was greeted with sold-out performances in prestigious venues such as Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Most recently, the multifaceted Uribe put together a smaller ensemble that highlights his songwriting and the presence of the accordion. This new format differs from the big band in its more compact size and organic style. He is in the process of recording his next self-composed album.
