Global Jazz Forum: Joe Lovano and Kenny Werner

Leading jazz tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano ’72 ’98H, and pianist Kenny Werner—the artistic director of the Effortless Mastery Institute—come together in this forum to share expertise with students.

A leading jazz luminary, Joe Lovano is a Grammy-winning saxophonist and Blue Note recording artist who serves as Gary Burton chair in performance with the Berklee Global Jazz Institute. Lovano has collaborated with many legendary musicians, including McCoy Tyner ’05H, Hank Jones ’05H, John Scofield ’73 ’97H, Branford Marsalis ’80 ’06H, and Jim Hall ’95H. He has been nominated for 14 Grammys, and won last year’s DownBeat Critics Poll Award for tenor saxophone.

Kenny Werner believes that mastery is available to everyone. An accomplished jazz pianist, he uses his life story and experiences to explore the barriers to creativity and mastery of music. His book Effortless Mastery: Liberating the Master Musician Within is one of the most widely read books on music and improvisation, and has helped thousands of musicians around the world unlock their potential.
