Javier Limón Mediterranean Music Institute artistic director, producer, composer, and guitarist presents Flamenco Orígenes, a journey back in time exploring the sounds that created the musical universe of flamenco.

Flamenco music's roots are diverse, including Sephardic music, Arabic music, an essential part of the history of the Iberian Peninsula and undisputed pillar of the melodic and rhythmic legacy of Andalusian music, and gypsy flamenco, directly linking the Indian origins of art where the music has lived for centuries.

Javier Limón's classical background and his knowledge of jazz and Occidental classics make this concert a meeting point of vanguard music where emotion sets the pace for a sophisticated yet natural and intimate repertoire.

This project features extraordinary musicians representing these different musical traditions, including student singer Tonina Saputo and percussionist Negah Santos, singer and associate professor Christiane Karam, and alumni: recorder player and singer Tali Rubinstein ‘14, violin player Layth Sidiq ’14, and singer Shilpa Ananth ’14.
