Stan Getz Library and the Office for Diversity and Inclusion presentFilm Screening: Americana Women
Learn about a trail-blazing and inspiring group of female roots musicians embracing styles from A (Appalachian) to Z (Zydeco), including blues, old-time, and Cajun music. This film traces a straight line from 93-year-old Ozark mountain fiddler Violet Hensley to up-and-coming 18-year-old Jacqueline Nassar and features heavy hitters like Ruthie Foster, Eden Brent and Deanna Bogart, Alice Gerrard, Ann Savoy, Rhiannon Giddens of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, and Anna Roberts-Gevalt—not to mention some amazing women who’d likely slip into oblivion if not for the important work of the MusicBox Project.
Join us for this screening in honor of Women’s History Month with special guest, filmmaker, and president of the MusicBox Project Dyann Arthur.
