Fast and Out IX: Tonal, Polytonal, and Atonal Techniques for 21st-Century Guitarists
Professor Norm Zocher will demonstrate a uniquely guitaristic approach to tonal, polytonal, and atonal improvising on the fretboard based on the six fundamental symmetrical structures derived from each interval of the chromatic scale and how they literally reflect over the tritone when viewing the chromatic scale in a circular manner, effectively reducing the chromatic scale to six notes. Techniques will include chromatic triads and fourth voicings; whole tone, diminished, augmented, and double augmented scales; as well as improvisation with the cycle of fifths/fourths and the mother chord. New on the menu are "the secret eight” and "the devil’s triangle." Digital PDFs of examples will be provided for clinic participants.
