Wendy LeBorgne, a voice pathologist and vocal athlete specialist, conducts this two-hour, interactive workshop on vocal wellness and maximization.

Professional singers are vocal athletes who rely on optimal and consistent vocal performance for their livelihoods. Because of the physiologic demands placed on the vocal mechanism, they are at an increased risk of vocal injury, which can cause loss of revenue, performance rescheduling, liability, and difficulty finding appropriate help for the injured performer. Even worse, performers may jeopardize their careers if a permanent or chronic vocal injury is sustained.

Many vocal injuries can be predicted, minimized, and even prevented. Using the professional sports model (i.e., orthopedic surgeon, physical therapist, coach), LeBorgne has developed and implemented a similar approach for minimizing vocal injury and maximizing rehabilitation for vocal athletes in high-risk, vocally demanding roles.

The workshop will empower vocal athletes with:

  • Vocal health and wellness strategies that go beyond typical hydration and vocal hygiene recommendations
  • Preventative vocal wellness tips to minimize the risk of vocal injury
  • What to do if you suspect a vocal problem
  • Evidence-based information on healthy options for high-risk performers without compromising artistic integrity
  • Maximization of audio technology when you are not feeling 100 percent vocally
  • Open question and answer time to ask vocal health questions
