In this one-hour workshop, alumnus Anthony Schultz B.M. '88 will offer tips and tricks for capturing a high-quality vocal recording with a budget-friendly home studio setup. He will discuss aspects of home recording, including, but not limited to:

  • Vocal microphone options
  • Audio interfaces
  • Choosing the best room to record in
  • Using homemade baffles to create a makeshift booth

The program is designed to address D.I.Y. home recording for vocalists, podcasters, voice actors, and anyone curious about how to create their own vocal tracks from home.

Anthony Schultz

Tony Schultz has been an audio engineer, music producer, and composer for more than 30 years as owner and operator of Big T Productions in Boston. He was an assistant professor at the New England Institute of Art from 1997 to 2017, specializing in audio technology and computer music, and has been an Instructor of music production for Berklee Online since January 2016. He has also been an instructor/lecturer of audio technology at Bridgewater State University since January 2020. Tony has presented at a number of colleges, including Berklee, Harvard University, and the Royal College of Music in London.

Schultz has a bachelor’s in music production and engineering from Berklee and a master's in music technology from the University of Newcastle in Australia. He has served three consecutive two-year terms as the chair of the Boston Section of the Audio Engineering Society, two two-year terms as the vice president of the Eastern Region of the U.S./Canada, and currently serves as chair of Regions & Sections for the AES since fall 2016, overseeing all professional and student AES sections worldwide. He is also a member of the Recording Academy and the American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).

Past clients include: RCA Records, Mercury Records, Virgin Records, WFNX, Home Inc., EF Education, Schneider & Associates, Softskull Press, Brand X Filmworks, Dudnyk Healthcare, Teatro de Marionettas de Venezuela, and the NAHB Production Group.
