Cass McCombs

Often-covered Californian troubadour Cass McCombs appears at Cafe 939 on the heels of his remarkable new release Wit's End (out on Domino on April 26).  Spin Magazine says of Wit's End: "Songs so unassuming they sneak up and slay you."

Sleepy Very Sleepy's Unlimited Circulation is slated for an independent release in May 2011. The album was produced by Sleepy Very Sleepy and Elio DeLuca, and engineered by DeLuca at The Soul Shop in Medford, MA (Titus Andronicus, Hallelujah the Hills, Faces on Film). From the sub-harmonic rumbling and dreamlike lyricism of the opening track, "Good Darkness," to the hard -itting, maddening caterwaul of the gospel-tinged "Only Us Know," the album follows a dynamic arc of tension and release. Though it straddles the line between genres, the record is held together by an emotional authenticity and clarity of statement.

$12, general admission
