Cinco Son

Cinco Son, led by Berklee alumnus Pablo Bencid, is a musical project that joins the talents of some of the finest musicians in the New England Latin music scene. The music of Cinco Son ranges from Latin jazz to fiery old-school salsa classics, from funk-infused timba to reggae renditions of salsa classics.

Dominican percussionist and singer Vicente Lebrón (congas and vocals) is an institution in the region's musical scene, with a career spanning more than two decades. He has performed with some of the finest Latin music luminaries, including La Lupe and Celia Cruz and the best salsa bands in New England. For over a decade Lebrón has been performing all over the world with the acclaimed Either Orchestra.

Drummer extraordinaire Pablo Bencid from Venezuela has an extensive and impressive career from his early days as a drummer for the best reggae, rock, and punk bands in Caracas to his international performances with the classical music sensation Labèque Sisters and the Either Orchestra.

Keyboardist Matt Jenson is a mainstay in the New England music scene, having performed with the top blues, jazz, funk, and reggae acts in the region, including the legendary Ronnie Earl, Johnny Adams, and Mighty Sam McClain. His passion for Latin music has made him a sought-after pianist in the Latin music scene. He also leads his own ensembles, Combo Sabroso (old-school salsa) and Rebel Tumbao (reggae and salsa).

Venezuelan trombone virtuoso Angel Subero is a uniquely versatile musician, working on the classical music front with the likes of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops, as well as with the top salsa and Latin jazz ensembles in New England. He tours internationally on a regular basis and performs in the region's most important venues.

Singer and bassist Alex Alvear from Ecuador is a driving force in the promotion of Latin culture as a promoter, as well as a very active musician in the region. In addition to having performed and toured with artists such as Paquito D'Rivera, Orlando "Puntilla" Ríos, Celia Cruz, and Cachao, to name a few, he is the leader of the critically-acclaimed ensembles Mango Blue (Afro-Latin funk) and Equatorial (new Ecuadorian music).

Since the birth of the group it has made Salsa Sundays a memorable night at the Beehive.

The Cinco Son concert is hosted by Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción (IBA).
