Film has had a major impact on the artistic innovation of Wayne Shorter, who will be the special guest at a screening and discussion of The Fountainhead, a 1949 film based on the novel by Ayn Rand and starring Gary Cooper and Patricia Neal. The film will be shown at 2:00 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session with Shorter.

Actress Carolina Shorter and musician Patricia Zarate will interview Shorter, who personally selected the film for screening, about the influence of The Fountainhead on his music, his creative process, and his concept of humanity. For Shorter, practicing or playing an instrument is all about becoming more human, and he says the challenge is to create music that speaks of the eternity of things. "Tragedy is temporary," he says. "The constant is that which transcends tragedy." Members of the audience will also have the opportunity to participate in the discussion. Free and open to the public in the Remis Auditorium.
