The Terri Lyne Carrington Berklee Ensemble has been one of the most sought-after ensemble classes at Berklee College of Music over the last two years. Performers: Dan Carpel, bass; Roy Guzman, guitar; Kyle Nasser, tenor; David Negrete, alto; Takeshi Ohbayashi, piano; Nick Sweet, trombone; and Mark Whitfield Jr., drums.

"The bands of Art Blakey and Betty Carter were institutions in themselves," says Carrington. "It is in this spirit that I try to teach classic and modern jazz repertoire to these young musicians. Freshman drummer Mark Whitfield Jr., son of jazz guitarist Mark Whitfield, is rich in jazz vocabulary and displays maturity far beyond his years. Definitely someone to watch out for."

Selections will include standards, original compositions by Carrington and the students, and pieces by some of the legendary artists Carrington has worked with, including Terence Blanchard, Michael Brecker, Roy Hargrove, and Patrice Rushen. The group will perform in Boston at the Beehive as well on November 25.
