David Maxwell, new to the piano faculty this fall, will be playing a variety of blues-related pieces: classic and original deep blues, boogie-woogie, funk, and gospel/jazz. Some of these songs he has showcased on his albums, and he'll also play some new material—and maybe a jazz piece or two.
Maxwell played at the Blues Summit at Rose Hall/Lincoln Center this June featuring James Cotton, Taj Mahal, and other luminaries. He recently won the 2010 W.C. Handy Blues Music Award for Best Acoustic Album with Louisiana Red. He has also won a Grammy for his contribution to a James Cotton album, and many other nominations and awards for piano performance and recorded work. For the last two years, his band Maximum Blues was voted Best Blues Act at the Boston Music Awards.
