Berklee Summer Concert SeriesBen Powell Quartet
Violinist, composer, and band leader Ben Powell was born in Cheltenham, England into a musical family. His talent was evident from a very young age, resulting in an invitation to solo at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics in Japan. He joined the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain at age 16. At the same time, he developed not only a strong interest in jazz but the ability to play swinging improvisations. Powell moved on to Berklee, and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in jazz composition. During his three years as a student in Boston, Powell also enjoyed playing in the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra.
He has shared the stage with greats such as Herbie Hancock, Gloria Estefan, and Paul Simon, to name a few, and has had the privilege of performing for Laura Bush and Queen Noor of Jordan. Light, his recording debut, features him already as a mature jazz soloist. Powell's musicianship, technical brilliance, and mature intuition bring audiences to their feet.
