Martynas Švėgžda von Bekker began playing violin at age 5 and performed in his first concert with the Vilnius Symphony Orchestra at age 11. He has studied at the M. K. Čiurlionis Art School, the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, under Mark Lubotsky.

Švėgžda von Bekker has released four albums and received numerous grants and scholarships. He has also participated in a number of European competitions. Since the 1990s, he has performed in Scandinavia, the Baltic states, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Russia with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (conductor H. D. Baum), Georgian State Symphony Orchestra, Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, and others.

Since 2003, he has been teaching violin at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Currently, Svegzda von Bekker is a Fulbright Scholar at Boston University's College of Fine Arts and an honorary cultural attaché of Lithuania.
