Igmar Thomas and the Cypher combine the sophistication of jazz with the culture of the new hip-hop generation. What sets them apart from other bands is their emphasis on improvisation—a common feature of both jazz and hip-hop. Though the songs are arranged to follow a certain form, Thomas encourages the musicians to bring their own inflections and independence to each piece.

Cedric Hanriot, a musician, composer, arranger, educator, and actor, played and toured with funk/acid jazz band Notorious, performing about 400 concerts throughout Europe and recording the album Funky Way of Life in 1998. After this great and intense experience, Hanriot went on to play and record with many projects as a leader and sideman/accompanist in musical styles as varied as jazz, salsa, funk, pop, electro, and groove.
