Dave Samuels has distinguished himself as one of the most versatile and innovative vibraphonists in contemporary jazz over the past three decades. Since first gaining international regard in 1974 as a member of the Gerry Mulligan Sextet, he has performed and recorded with such musicians as Chet Baker, Double Image, Paquito D'Rivera, Bruce Hornsby, Pat Metheny, Oscar Peterson, Spyro Gyra, and Frank Zappa. In 1993, he founded his own band, the Caribbean Jazz Project, which has recorded five albums: Caribbean Jazz Project, Island Stories, New Horizons, Paraiso, and the 2003 Grammy Award–winning The Gathering. His four solo recordings—Living Colors, Ten Degrees North, Natural Selection, and Del Sol—further demonstrate Samuels’s talent as a composer, performer, and producer.
