Berklee Performance Center
136 Massachusetts Avenue
United States

Join us for the first in a series of concerts under the theme of Griots and Community. This concert will be a celebration of ensembles. Performances inspired by Balkan folk music, African vocal traditions, Negro spirituals, contemporary music, and jazz, promise a concert of diverse styles of storytelling through vocal music. Additionally, two of Berklee's instrumental ensembles will join forces. The Berklee Jazz Orchestra and members of the BCSO string section will add their sonorous colors to the mix of music presented.

Each ensemble is like  a community, working together to shape a performance. Each piece performed is a story, offering a point of view on a moment in time. What better way to demonstrate the joys of music-making, than by raising our collective voices in celebration of the griots we become as musicians, in our own community of large ensembles at Berklee.

Produced by Patrice Rushen, Berklee's ambassador for artistry in education.
