Mariachi music has always been distinguished by the characteristic sound of its trumpets. Beyond mariachi, diverse styles of Mexican music from all over the republic are characterized by the signature sounds of their brass sections. Students will learn about the history of the primary Mexican traditions of brass music, and, through learning to play the various styles, will learn to distinguish them from one another.
