Five-Week Welcome Concert: Motown
Motown Records was the most successful record company in the history of recorded music. Berry Gordy and the incredible roster of singers and musicians are credited with creating the "blueprint" for what we commonly refer to as contemporary American music.
The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Elton John, to name a few-all credit Smokey Robinson, Motown bassist James Jamerson, the Isley Brothers, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Mary Wells, and Stevie Wonder as just a few of the artists who inspired them to produce their iconic musical works.
Motown: The Soundtrack for Contemporary American Music will offer the listener a small window into some of the most commercially successful and memorable songs from the Motown songbook. It hopefully will excite audience members to want to know more about this music and its influence on many of the artists who have captured their musical curiosity.
