Tommy Benedetti and Nate Edgar Clinic
Drummer Tommy Benedetti and bassist Nate Edgar from future-roots pioneers John Brown's Body present Inside the Engine Room: a reggae/dub drum 'n' bass clinic.
As the rhythm section for the critically acclaimed eight-piece U.S. reggae/dub band JOHN BROWN’S BODY, Benedetti '03 and Edgar have traveled the globe bringing a heavy, cutting-edge approach and a love for old-school Jamaican music to the masses. Their sound and chemistry form the backbone of the JBB sound. In their presentation, they will break down and perform some classic dub rhythms as well as selections from JBB's 2008 release Amplify, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard reggae chart.
When not touring with JBB, Benedetti and Edgar keep busy with a variety of sessions and gigs in and around the Boston area, most notably with Dub Apocalypse. That group, which will be performing later this evening at Cafe 939, is a collective of some of Boston's most adventurous and creative musicians. On any given night the band may include Johnny Trama (Nate Wilson Group), Timo Shanko (G Love), Dana Colley (Morphine), Jeff Lockhart (Wally's Stepchildren), or a host of others. Dub Apocalypse builds swirling, improv-heavy tunes using a mix of classic dub rhythms and originals as a springboard for their sonic journeys. They pack the house at Bull McCabe's in Union Square, Somerville, every Sunday night at their weekly residency and picked up a Boston Music Award for Best International Act of 2010.
Benedetti is endorsed by Vater drumsticks and Evans drumheads. Edgar is endorsed by Lakland basses and Aguilar amplification.
