Randy Felts: "X"-Ploding Saxophone

Monday / July 18, 2011 / 4:00 p.m.
David Friend Recital Hall
921 Boylston Street
United States

Using the Synthophone (all-digital saxophone), Randy Felts will present examples of the huge world of new sounds available to the contemporary saxophonist. Learn how you can use this new instrument to control sounds from MIDI sound modules, and keyboards, or from within your laptop computer. Hear your sax as a string section, a drum kit, a Take 6–type vocal ensemble, or an entire band.

This year he'll be discussing the use of Kontakt 4 and other software synths included in Komplete 7 by the company Native Instruments. He will also link his Synthophone to visual images and play them along with live audio using video software called ArKaos Video DJ.

Felts is an associate professor in the Harmony Department at Berklee and a veteran saxophonist. He is the music director for Harvey Robbins’s Royalty of Rock ‘n’ Roll concert series and the United States representative of Softwind Instruments (makers of the Synthophone.) He performs regularly in the New England area in a wide variety of settings.
