Berklee Global Jazz Institute Meets Kalesma
Kalesma is a humanitarian project that transforms children’s lives through music. Its mission is to establish a permanent music education program for the children of the Ark of the World (Kivotos tou Kosmou) in Athens, Greece, and provide them with scholarships for further music studies in the United States.
Kalesma was created by Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI) alumnus Vasilis Kostas and inspired by his experience working with BGJI artistic director Danilo Pérez and managing director Marco Pignataro. The first Kalesma concert occurred in Athens in July 2018; this second concert brings together current BGJI students and alumni, the first scholarship recipients coming from Greece to study at the Berklee Vocal Summit Program, and the children’s choir of the Eliot Upper School, led by Stefano Marchese.
