Students, faculty, and recent alumni of the American Roots Music Program play blues, early gospel, spirituals, Celtic, old-time, bluegrass, and Western swing as well as contemporary music inspired by these genres. The concert features special guests Andy Statman, Bruce Molsky, Paul Rishell, and Annie Raines, and also celebrates the anniversary of J.S. Bach's birthday.
Berklee has become the epicenter of an amazing scene of virtuosic young players in these folk idioms, and this will be the first Berklee Performance Center show to celebrate them and the American Roots Music Program since its inception. The performance will also include a tribute to Pete Seeger and the great singer Jo Stafford, featuring selections from her seminal album, American Folk Songs.
