This clinic features special guest vocalist Eula Lawrence, backed up by a trio featuring Berklee faculty Tim Ray (piano), John Pierce (bass), and Berklee alumnus Les Harris Jr. '83 (drums). The focus of the clinic is how a rhythm section can provide the best accompaniment for a vocalist and how the vocalist can let the band know what he or she wants.

Pianist Tim Ray is an in-demand accompanist for many vocalists, including an extended stint with Lyle Lovett and recent performances with Tony Bennett. Bassist John Pierce has led a trio and quartet three nights a week at All Seasons Table restaurant in Malden, Massachusetts, for the past 10 years, along with drummer Jon Hazilla and a rotating roster of vocalists and pianists. Drummer Les Harris Jr. has been active for many years in the New Hampshire and Boston area, and has toured the world with the vocal group the Ritz, as well as having worked with many New England jazz greats.

Vocalist Eula Lawrence hails from Philadelphia but has been in Boston for many years, having performed with many of Boston’s finest musicians and having recorded with jazz luminaries including Harvie S and Alan Dawson. Her most recent recording, “Eula,” was released in 2013, with Tim Ray on piano, John Pierce on bass, and Jon Hazilla on drums.
