Andy Milne

Andy Milne joins the Jazz Composition Workshop Ensemble as they perform works from his extensive and impressive repertoire. A pianist and composer, Milne has been an important and respected voice on the New York jazz scene for over 20 years. During the 1990s, he was at the center of the M-BASE collective, collaborating extensively with saxophonist Steve Coleman as well as with Cassandra Wilson and Greg Osby. Milne has toured and recorded with Ravi Coltrane, Ralph Alessi, Carlos Ward, and Carla Cook, and has collaborated with a range of artists including Sekou Sundiata, Avery Brooks, Bruce Cockburn, Fred Hersch, and Dianne Reeves. He has composed and produced the scores for seven documentary films directed by acclaimed director William Shatner.

In 2013, Milne composed an orchestral work for American Composers Orchestra’s JCOI New Music Readings. In 2014, Lincoln Center premiered Strings and Serpents, commissioned by the Japan Foundation and New Music USA. Milne’s latest work, The Seasons of Being, was recorded for Yamaha Piano’s Diskclavier television series and premiered at Millersville University in 2015. Commissioned by Chamber Music America, the suite channels the diagnostic insights of homeopathy into music.
