Afro-Venezuelan Demonstration: A Hidden Treasure
Jeickov Vital, Fran Vielma, and Daniel Prim are part of an important cast of Venezuelan percussionists and researchers, dedicated for many years to the study of Afro-Venezuelan music in the hand of cultists and traditional percussion experts. These outstanding performers will present a percussion demonstration that promises to bring to Berklee Percussion Days a big array of unique percussive languages and textures from one of the richest musical countries of South America and the Caribbean.
Five different drum ensembles accompanied by original chants from the east-central and central coast of Venezuela will be performed. Genres such as culo e’ puya and mina from Miranda state, as well as sangueos, golpes de cumaco, and culo largo from the regions of Yaracuy, Carababo, and Aragua will be part of this demonstration.
