Chinese MicroJam, Featuring Yazhi Guo with David Fiuczynski
The Planet MicroJam Institute, under the direction of David Fiuczynski, presents Chinese MicroJam, featuring suona virtuoso Yazhi Guo on Chinese oboe, dizi (flute), xiao, sheng (reed mouth organ), hulusi (triple pipe free reed), and more. He will be backed up by Planet MicroJam Institute students, alumni, and local artists.
Chinese MicroJam will take the audience on a journey that starts in the East and ends in the West, where prominent features of Chinese music such as melody and tone are carefully blended in a jazz/groove improv and, at times, microtonal context.
Musicians include Guo (suona and more), Fiuczynski (fretted and fretless guitars), Utar Artun (microtonal keyboards), Wesley Wirth (bass), and Anthony Steele (drums).
