Pianist and composer GaYoung Bae '15, a native of South Korea, began playing jazz piano at the age of 19. She earned her bachelor's degree from Berklee College of Music, and since 2014, she has participated in the Berklee Global Jazz Institute founded by Grammy-winning pianist and composer Danilo Pérez. She has studied and performed with Joe Lovano, Miguel Zenon, Marco Pignataro, and John Patitucci, to name a few. Her music is inspired by church music, and she explores musical ideas related to faith and Korean nature. She is currently working toward a Master of Music in Contemporary Performance (Global Jazz Concentration).
