Disability Services works to proactively identify and remove barriers to access in order to promote inclusion and minimize the need for accommodations. When access is not achieved proactively through design, individual accommodations provide an alternative means to achieve access.
It is the responsibility of each student to make their disability status and need for accommodations known. Plans for accommodations are created through an interactive process that includes the student, the faculty, and the Disability Services staff.
Once a student has completed and submitted the Accommodation Request form, Disability Services will email a Course Accessibility letter to each instructor.
Students are strongly encouraged to meet with each instructor to review the accommodation requests. Students or faculty can contact Disability Services if there are any questions about the accommodations.
Process for Requesting Academic Accommodations
- All students who are requesting accommodations for the first time at Berklee must complete a Registration with Disability Services form. Students only need to complete this form once to remain registered with Disability Services throughout enrollment at Berklee.
- To initially request academic accommodations, a student must participate in a registration meeting with Disability Services staff. Staff will review the student's past experience with accommodations, discuss current barriers to access, and review the available documentation of the disability with the student as part of the registration meeting.
- Schedule a meeting online, or call the Office of Disability Services at 617-747-2387.
Any student who has a documented disability may be eligible for academic, housing, and/or dietary accommodations. Eligibility for accommodations is determined through an interactive process between Disability Services staff and the student; this process includes a review of relevant current information, a discussion regarding past experience with receiving accommodations, and documentation of the disability. Disability Services may request additional or updated documentation at any point to assist in determining eligibility or in order to develop a plan for accommodations.
Continuing students need to complete an Accommodation Request form each semester, identifying the accommodations that are needed for each course.
If a student chooses to request a new or different academic accommodation, the student should schedule an appointment to consult with the Disability Services staff.
