Music of Women Composers

Description

A seminar course on the female contribution to various musical traditions from antiquity to the present. Emphasis will be placed on the changing roles of, and attitudes towards, women as composers, conductors, performers, etc. More specifically, this class examines the achievements of women musicians in the light of societal expectations, impositions, limitations, and attitudes through large and small group discussions. Students will complete journal entries, writing projects, peer review editing, and small group presentations.
