Description

This course introduces an overview of music education curricula in secondary schools. Students will examine concepts and approaches to the organization and development of a music curriculum as applied to general music, instrumental, and choral programs. Special attention will be focused on adolescent development and age-appropriate pedagogy. Students will learn motivational concepts; administrative organization skills; student/instructor relationship development; community involvement; techniques and strategies for teaching differently abled students and students from diverse cultural backgrounds; and lesson plan design, implementation, and assessment/evaluation procedures. Students will be required to complete a minimum of 15 hours of assigned observation in secondary schools in the Greater Boston area.
