Course Number
ISEL-113
Description

In this class, students explore the possibilities of using modular synthesizers in a live performance setting. Students develop proficiency in using modulars to fulfill a variety of musical functions in an ensemble setting. Topics include tuning the instruments, using a combination of sequencers, function generators along with traditional keyboard controllers, realtime control of synthesis parameters, and synchronizing tempos. Exercises developing melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic roles along with associated listening skills are introduced each week with special emphasis placed on incorporating sound design as part of the music making process.
