Course Number
ENRT-403
Description

The Women’s Choir ensemble is a collective group of female vocalists designed to teach students both the history and characteristics of traditional gospel music and how it has transformed over the years into the contemporary sounds of gospel being performed today. This group also studies the sounds, blend, and styles of various female gospel artists and groups such as: The Clark Sisters, Mary Mary, The Staples Singers, and others. This course emphasizes active participation, stylistic integrity, and melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic accuracy. The goal of this ensemble is for each student to use their musicianship to tap into their individual greatness as a performer, bandleader, and person. Essentially this ensemble reflects the experience of a professional touring group.
