Cuban Moves and Grooves

Description

Students learn the roots—key percussion patterns, movement patterns, social/historical context—of a variety of Cuban music genres (son, rumba, cha cha, bolero, bembé, Afro-Cuban). Vocal and instrumental course sections meet biweekly as a combined class for immersion in the roots of each feel, participating in call and response singing, percussion ensemble exercises, and dancing, to enrich their experience of the repertoire.
